An independent movie theatre, locally owned and operated, nestled in the heart of Oakville, Ontario. We specialize in first-run blockbuster movies at an affordable price. We are community-focused and also love to run local events and independent films.
Film.Ca exhibits the same Hollywood blockbusters on the same release dates as the big-box theatres, but at a lower price. General admission is just $8.50, children and seniors can get in for $6.50, and on Tuesdays admission is only $5 for all seats. This month, expect big releases like The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Hotel Transylvania 2 and Everest. Festival and independent fare is also common at Film.Ca, so also watch for the best of this month’s TIFF and other festivals coming soon.
“We can now say we deliver a great experience for our guests, and for less cost than the big box chains. Our biggest challenge is many in Oakville do not know all the changes we have made or even know we exist. Word of mouth is building though and we are excited,” says Knoll of the theatre.
Film.Ca also runs a number of special film series that are sure to appeal to a variety of tastes. The Signature Series presents exclusive opera and ballet performances from the Royal Opera House and drama from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre twice monthly. A portion of all ticket sales for the Signature Series also goes towards ArtHouse, which provides free access to arts programming for children in need. For fans of all things weird and wonderful, Film.Ca After Hours presents the best cult classic films – like The Big Lebowski this month - on the last Friday of every month. And students will appreciate Film.Ca’s weekly student nights, where they can get in for $6.50 and get pop or popcorn for just a toonie.
Film.ca’s strong connection to the community has fuelled its renaissance over the last year. It commonly runs local film series such as Halton Green Screens and student films from Sheridan College. Hundreds of charitable groups have used the theatre facilities, and its revenue sharing program, to raise funds. It’s not uncommon to see local performers and groups in the cinema’s lobby.
